The Farmscape Fallout Block Shelter is a Rated preplanned engineered home nuclear shelter taking up one bay of a two-car garage. The four walls require approximately 16 man-hours to build. The Kit of steel roof beams are drill and painted and bolted to the top plate of the structure and require another 8 man-hours to install on the top of the walls. Placing the 11,500 solid 4 in. concrete blocks in place will require two people approximately 24 hours. There are 26,336+ lbs. of concrete on the roof of the shelter. The wood wall material will cost approximately $4000 without a contractor discount. Radiation wall shielding with a Protection Factor of 4, is accomplished with concrete blocks stacked against the walls all around the shelter up to the top of the ceiling steel beams. Ceiling ventilation is active all around shelter ceiling. An NBC air filtration system can blow fresh air into the shelter and a porty potty can be used. A 250-gallon water tank, can be stored in the garage and filled. The shelter can be equipped with a water filter, portable toilet, batteries, lights, food, NBC air filtration system, etc. All can be ready with some planning and no building permit is needed so this type of shelter can be built in secrecy and not as subject to intruder assaults as underground shelters. The dimensions of the shelter can also change depending on the needs of the family and size of the garage. The key attitude here is to remember that there will always be time to reach a shelter but there will probably not be enough time to build one when a disaster occurs.
